Ignite National Technology Fund, operating under the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication, has officially rolled out the latest edition of the Digital Pakistan Cybersecurity Hackathon. The national initiative features a total prize and reward allocation valued at Rs. 51.5 million, positioning it as the largest cyber defense competition ever organized within the country.
According to official documentation published by the National Computer Emergency Response Team (PKCERT), the national event is organized in direct collaboration with PKCERT and academic partners including FAST-NUCES. The platform is designed to identify, train, and reward security researchers, university students, and IT professionals through hands-on technical challenges and real-world threat simulations.
Speaking at an official gathering tied to the national initiative, Minister for IT and Telecommunication Ms. Shaza Fatima Khawaja emphasized the strategic focus of the program. “The Ministry of IT and Ignite are dedicated to identifying and nurturing cybersecurity talent to protect our national networks,” she stated.
The overall Rs. 51.5 million distribution package combines direct monetary awards, international training vouchers, and full event sponsorships for overseas technical competitions. Participants compete across multiple defense and offense categories, including Capture the Flag (CTF) Red Teaming, Blue Teaming, web application security, malware analysis, digital forensics, and artificial intelligence model vulnerabilities.

Participation data released from previous iterations indicates that the national hackathon series has registered over 4,100 teams and identified more than 7,000 security specialists across 16 cities. Training workshops and regional qualifiers prepare contestants to identify network vulnerabilities, creating attack-and-defense datasets that security researchers use as practical case studies to predict real-world security incidents.
The launch coincides with Pakistan’s placement in the Top Tier-1 Role-Modeling category of the International Telecommunication Union Global Cybersecurity Index. Government reports indicate that expanding local technical capacity directly fortifies national critical infrastructure while helping bridge a global deficit of approximately 3.4 million cybersecurity professionals.
