Early leaks tied to Apple’s next flagship cycle suggest the company is testing a new “Deep Red” color option for the iPhone 18 Pro, a departure from the more muted tones that have defined recent Pro models.
Images and internal descriptions circulating across supply chain forums and Chinese social platform Weibo in the past 48 hours show prototype units in a darker, wine-toned red finish.
The shade appears closer to burgundy than the brighter PRODUCT(RED) variants Apple has historically reserved for non-Pro models.
Several posts attributed to display and casing suppliers claim the color is currently in evaluation and may not reach final production.
Supply chain chatter points to prototype testing
According to posts from accounts that have previously shared accurate details about iPhone finishes, the Deep Red variant is one of at least three color prototypes under consideration for the iPhone 18 Pro lineup. A translated post from a supplier-linked account states, “Apple is testing a darker red tone for Pro models, different from any previous generation,” though it stops short of confirming mass production plans.
No official acknowledgment has come from Apple, which typically finalizes color options closer to launch. The company has a track record of testing multiple finishes internally before narrowing the lineup. For example, several rumored colors for the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro never made it to retail units.
Shift away from conservative Pro palette
Apple’s Pro models have leaned toward neutral finishes such as graphite, silver, gold, and more recently titanium-inspired tones. A move toward a saturated red would mark a notable shift in how Apple differentiates its premium devices from standard models, which often receive more vibrant colors.
Industry analysts tracking Apple’s product strategy note that color has become a subtle but important upgrade lever as hardware changes plateau year over year. A distinct finish can drive upgrades without altering core design language. Apple previously experimented with darker hues in the iPhone 7 era’s “Jet Black,” which saw high demand despite durability concerns.

Some reports suggest Apple is also evaluating a refreshed blue and a lighter titanium variant for the same lineup.
If the company proceeds with the Deep Red option, it would likely be unveiled alongside the iPhone 18 Pro series during Apple’s usual September launch window in 2026.
